Understand What Exploitation Is
Exploitation happens when someone takes advantage of another person for their own gain. This can happen in different ways, including criminal, sexual, and labor exploitation. Young people are often targeted by individuals or groups who manipulate them into harmful situations using threats, violence, or emotional control.
Grooming is a common tactic used to exploit young people. This might involve offering gifts, money, or attention to build trust before pressuring them into doing something dangerous or illegal.
Spotting The Signs

Sudden changes in behaviour – becoming withdrawn, secretive, or anxious.

Being controlled by someone older – someone they seem scared of or dependent on.

Changes in friendships – spending time with older or unfamiliar people.

Unexplained injuries or signs of abuse – including bruises, cuts, or burns.
