Our Projects

What if?

It all begin back when a group of young people asked one simple question...

Increasing
Engagement in Education

93% of those supported by WAY with no/low school attendance saw an improvement in their engagement.

Tackling Health Innequalities

75% of hospital re- attenders have not attended since receiving support from WAY.

Enabling and Sustained Employment

64% of those mentored have already accessed education or employment.

Reducing Incidents of Crime and Violence

15% of those we mentored were involved with the police, of those, 100% have not repeat offended.

Improving Mental Health and Wellbeing

100% of the young people we mentored said they now feel more hopeful about the future.

WAY 52

Children and young people in Swindon face real challenges:

  • 1 in 4 children live in poverty.
  • 18–24 year olds are more likely to be unemployed.
  • Children and young people are more likely to attend A&E due to self-harm, need additional support in education, and be affected by crime or exploitation.

We believe in a better future for Swindon’s Children and Young People. That’s why we are doing 52km along the Ridgeway for the 52,000 children and young people in Swindon

You have a part to play

WAY is all about gathering local people, groups and organisations to make a lasting change to the lives of local young people and our communities. Whoever you are, whatever you have to offer, you too can make a difference.

Swindon's Child First Manifesto

We are partnering with children, young people and organisations across our communities to build a Child First Swindon!

Beacons of Hope

Young People Making Their Mark

The Beacons of Hope project is designed to raise awareness about the challenges young people face and to help them access the support they need.To achieve this, we worked with young people and a local artist to design and install two murals—one at The Great Western Hospital and another at The Base youth centre. Each mural includes a QR code that links directly to a support page for children and young people.

Young People Influencing Change

Swindon's Health Needs Report

Children and Young People at WAY commissioned by Swindon Borough Council to lead on producing the Health Needs Report 2024 which will shape local strategy to addressing the needs of children and young people.
